How do I add gear oil to my 1989 Ford Ranger?

There should be a plug toward the middle of the diff case either on the front or back of the case. This plug will probably have a sqaure 3/8 notch in it. Take your 3/8 rathet and stick it in the notch and turn as you would any other nut. Fill with gear oil until it starts to come out the hole you just took the plug out of. Put some teflon tape around the threads of the plug and put it back in and your set!

The diff case is part of your rear axle under the truck bed. Follow your rear wheels back to the axle and in the center of the axle there should be a almost sphereical shaped piece of metal, this is your differential case. How do I add gear oil to my 1989 Ford Ranger?
You will need a squirt bottle of gear oil since you cant turn a regular container up high enough. After removing the plug, stick your little finger in the hole. If there is lubricant just below the hole, it's OK. If not, add oil.
