I have a 98 Dodge Durango with the 231D HD transfer case. The 4 wheel drive gear (front wheels) has shot through the side of the transfer case. No oil is left in the case, as this is the low point. I was able to remove the gear from the transfer case for the front drive shaft and have two wheel drive (with hole in case). Since this is just a junk vehicle for me, I am not worried about heavy wear. Will the back wheel drive continue for a while or rapidly deteriorate?Broken Dodge Durango transfer case, can I ditch 4-wheel gear and leave without oil?
